The Education Department of the Health Sciences Library offers hands-on classes, consultations and one-on-one instruction. Classes are held in theTeaching Labs, 1st floor of the Health Sciences Library, Anschutz Medical Campus, and have a minimum enrollment of 3 unless otherwise noted.

Advanced EndNote®
Experienced EndNote users will learn advanced tips and techniques to customize term lists, citation fields and reference styles. Explore special features, such as image storage and MS Word document templates for specific reference styles. Recommended pre-requisite: Introduction to Endnote.

Learn high performance techniques for efficient and effective searching! Use the MeSH Database to build search strategies, wildcard searching, limits, and direct entry commands. Use My NCBI to filter searches, create collections for later reference, and save search strategies for automatic email updates or to run manually at another time. Pre-requisites: Attending the Introduction to PubMed class or completion of the PubMed Online Tutorial prior to taking this class. We recommend registering for a My NCBI account prior to taking this class.

EndNote and Reference Manager help manage databases of research citations imported from library databases and to manage reprint files. You will also learn to "cite while you write" to create your own bibliographies and format references in different styles.

Go beyond MEDLINE to learn the databases and tools available to locate methodologically sound and clinically relevant journal articles. Practice using the Cochrane Library, ACP PIER, Clinical Evidence, FIRSTConsult, InfoPoems/InfoRetriever, and EBM Reviews: ACP Journal Club. Use the Ovid MEDLINE Clinical Queries and PubMed Clinical Queries. Learn to set up the My NCBI filters most useful for Evidence Based PubMed searching. At least one month of searching experience is advised as a prerequisite to this class.
