Ovid Personal Account Setup

More questions? Email us or call us at 303-724-2152.

In 2006, we moved from library-issued Ovid logins to Ovid-assigned "Personal Accounts".

If you have an Ovid login/password issued before September 5, 2006, access is still available using that login. You may also switch to the new system.

Create an Ovid Personal Account at the Ovid site using the link pictured below:

Frequently Asked Questions about Ovid Personal Logins

Who can access Ovid?

Off-campus access to Ovid is restricted to primary patrons of the UCDHSC Library.

I have an Ovid ID and password issued by the library. Why should I switch?

Logins and passwords issued by Ovid allow you to include links back to the record in your results and share these links with others. Users can register themselves and have immediate access. Resetting forgotten passwords is also much more convenient.

How do I move my current saved searches and AutoAlerts to an Ovid Personal Account?

1) Set up a free Ovid Personal Account via the Ovid site using the link pictured here:

2) Remember: the Ovid login and password you created are different than the library login and password you will need in order to access Ovid from off campus.

3) Please inform us of the change at 303-724-2152 or email us the request: circ.library@ucdenver.edu

4) We will contact Ovid and let you know when the searches are transferred.

How do I save my search strategies?

  1. On the main search page click on the Save Search/Alert
  2. Enter your Ovid Personal Account or create a new personal account
  3. Under Type select Permanent
  4. Enter a search name and a comment
  5. Click Save

What is an AutoAlert and how do I create one?

An AutoAlert is a saved search strategy that runs automatically without any intervention on your part. When you save your search strategy as an AutoAlert in any database, the AutoAlert profile retrieves any newly-added documents on your topic and emails them to you the day that database has been updated.
Visit the AutoAlerts web page for an explanation, or Ask a Librarian.

Can I set up an "AutoAlert" in PubMed?

Yes. PubMed has a new feature called My NCBI. Select My NCBI from the left side of the PubMed screen to register for an account.

I forgot my Ovid Personal Account login name and password. What do I do?

  • Get into any Ovid database and click on Saved Searches.
  • Click on the link Forgot your Personal Account password?
  • Follow the instructions on this page.
