Setting up your Dial-up Connection to UCHSC
The instructions on this page explain how to set up a dial-up internet connection to the Health Sciences modem pool. If you have problems, contact student.postmaster@uchsc.edu or 303-724-2171.
Windows XP: Setting up a dial-up connection to USCHC
- Open the control panel (Start | Control Panel)
- Open Network and Internet Connections
- Follow the prompts, selecting Set up Connection Manually.
- When prompted, fill in the dial-up number for UCHSC: (303) 418-0014
Windows 2000: Setting up a dial-up connection to UCHSC
- From the windows desktop, click the Start button.
- Choose Network and Dial-up Connections.
- Select Make New Connection
- The Network Connection Wizard opens. Click Next.
- Select I want to set up my Internet connection manually and click Next.
- Select Dial-up to the Internet and click Next.
- Select I connect through a phone line and a modem and c lick Next.
- Click No in response to Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now? Click Next.
- Make sure the box is checked and click on Finish to connect.
- Enter 3034180014 in the phone number box. Click Next.
- Make sure UCHSC is part of the connection name.
- Click Finish.
- Click No in response to Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now? Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- If a Connection Availability screen appears: Select Only for Myself. Click Next.
- For Step 2 of the Internet Connection Wizard, Key in your E-Mail username and password. Click Next.
- Click OK if a message appears.
Connecting to your Internet E-Mail Account
- Open the Network and Dial-up Connections window.
- Double-click on the UCHSC icon
- Key in stargate\your E-Mail username and password.
- Make sure the correct telephone number is displayed. Click Dial.
- Click OK on any general message screens that appear.
Creating a desktop shortcut
- Open the Network and Dial-up Connections window.
- Right-click on the UCHSC icon and select Create Shortcut.
- Select Yes to create a shortcut on the desktop.
- This shortcut can be used to connect to UCHSC. Once a connection is established, open your browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) to view the web pages.
Macintosh: Creating a dial-up connection
These instructions pertain to OS X or later
- Open the Apple Menu
- ChooseSystem Preferences
- Click the Network icon
- New Location Menu
- Choose TCP/IP
- Name the new location UCHSC
- From the Configure pull down menu, select USING PPP.
- In the Domain Name Servers type in 140.226.190.14.
- In the Search Domains type in uchsc.edu
- Go to the PPP tab.
- In the Service Provider type in uchsc.
- In the Telephone Number type in 303-418-0014.
- In the Account Name type in your email username
- In the Password type in your email password.
- Click Apply Now.
You can now quit Network preferences. Once you dial the campus and are connected, open your browser to search the Internet. Remember to disconnect from remote access after completing your session.
Windows NT: Creating a dial-up connection
You must log in locally using the Administrator ID or User ID with equivalent local rights.
- Open My Computer.
- Open Dial-Up Networking.
- Click OK to create a new phonebook entry.
- Type in UCHSC or the name you would like to identify your campus connection.
- Click Next.
- Check I am calling the Internet.
- Click Next.
- Enter the following phone number: 303-418-0014
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- Click the Dial button to connect to the Campus network.
- Click More.
- Click Edit entry and modem properties
- Choose the Security tab.
- Make sure the Authentication and encryption policy is set to Accept any authentication including clear text.
- Make sure that Accept only encrypted authentication and Accept only Microsoft encrypted authentication ARE NOT SELECTED.
- Type your User name in the User name dialog box.
- Type your Password in the Password dialog box.
- Type stargate in the Domain dialog box.
- Click the OK button.
You can now dial in to the Campus Network.
