Getting Started with Student Email

A great place to start is the Outlook Web Access: Step by Step Tutorial

What is a cookie?

To access your campus email using a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.), your computer must accept cookies. If you are concerned about keeping cookies in your files, read on.

The cookies.txt file is where 'cookies' from websites are stored. Make this file a 'read only' file, and leave your browser set to accept cookies. Search your hard drive for 'cookies.txt', right click on the file that's found, and be sure the 'Read Only' box has a check mark in it. Your browser will accept cookies, but most cookies won't be saved for later reading by the site that dropped it.

What is my E-Mail address?

Your E-Mail address is assigned by the computer and is usually: <first-name>.<last-name>@uchsc.edu

So Liz Smith's address would be Liz.Smith@uchsc.edu.

Only one email account per person is allowed on campus - including those employed at UCH.  Call Student E-mail Support (303) 724-2171 or send an E-mail to student.postmaster@uchsc.edu for assistance or further information.

What is my user name?

In order to access your E-Mail account, you need to know the User Name that has been assigned for access to your Exchange account.

The user name is computer generated.  A maximum of eight characters; start with your last name, if it is shorter than 8 characters add your first initial. Still shorter than 8 characters? Add your middle initial, and stop there. Names that are duplicated in the Global Address list usually have a number added instead of a middle initial.

Anyone who already can connect to the UCHSC Exchange system (staff, faculty, or another student) can display the Properties of your Exchange account by looking up your name and double-clicking on it in the Exchange Global Address List.

The User Name that you will need to connect is the Alias listed in the General tab of Properties.

If you wish assistance finding your user name or if you have any other questions about this system, please contact the UCHSC Student E-Mail Support line at 303-724-2171 or send an E-mail to student.postmaster@uchsc.edu.
