Question 1:
When will you move?
At this
point the library is tentatively scheduled to move in October of 2007.
Most of the schools will be relocating during the same fall period,
which means everyone will be disrupted and inconvenienced to some
extent. There are too many programs and individuals to do this during a
short period, such as a winter holiday break. Move schedules will be
publicized as we get closer to actual relocation.

Question 2:
What will be the new phone number for the library?
This new number will go live across the library web site once the new library is open. 303-724-2152.
top
Question 3:
Will the library close during the move
or suspend electronic access?
Although
the details of the move have yet to be finalized, we will minimize any
disruption to electronic access or physical use of the library. The timing
of library relocation will be part of the complex migration of multiple
educational programs all moving in the same period.

Question 4:
What's that mound of rocks by the new library? Will it be staying?
The
installation you refer to is between the Library and the historic World
War I Red Cross Hospital Building. It is sometimes called the "Beehive"
monument. It is a memorial dedicated to U.S.Army medical staff who were
killed in WWI. It is a permanent monument and will be retained.

Question 5:
How big is the new library?
The new
library at Anschutz Medical Campus will be 113,000 gross square feet,
almost double the size of Denison Library. There will be 24,000
linear feet of shelving on the second and third floors to accommodate
215,000 journal and book volumes.
top
Question 6:
Why do we need a bigger space than we have now if everything is online?
The
new library has less space devoted to stacks because of the availability
of online journals. One of the biggest unmet needs based on user requests
over time is for lots of rooms for group collaboration and learning. Most
of the additional space in the new library is designed as group study,
with more than 30 new areas.

Question 7:
How much will it cost to build the new library?
The new library will be a $35
million signature building reflecting Colorado's environment.
top
Question 8:
What will happen to the old library?
Most
of the buildings, including the old library, will be demolished when Shea
Properties redevelops the Ninth Avenue campus.
Information on redevelopment

Pat Nelson, Assistant Director of Denison Memorial Library, has written
a history
of the old library to preserve our past.

Question 9
Will customer service be the same in the new library?
The faculty
and staff of the library remain committed to service excellence. We are
looking for opportunities to improve service and staffing efficiencies
in the new facility, recognizing that for some users any change may be
perceived as negative, even if it means enhanced service to the majority
of library users.

The
library was placed at the epicenter of the Anschutz Medical Campus and

is a short walk from the cluster of education buildings, research facilities,
the commercial properties in the Town Center, and will be across the
street from the future light rail station.
