Strauss Complementary and Indigenous Medicine Collection

Introduction

The Florence G. Strauss Complementary and Indigenous Medicine Collection consists of books, journals and other materials, related to complementary health practices and indigenous therapies from around the world. Often very distinct from and sometimes at odds with conventional Western approaches to medicine, the resources in this special collection provide an opportunity to learn about different healing traditions, philosophies and attitudes toward health and disease.  The Strauss Collection is supported by a generous endowment from Henry L. and Joan T. Strauss. 

An integral part of this special collection is the Strauss Committee, a group of health practitioners, researchers, and educators who advise the library on the collection and bring attention to it through the Strauss Lecture series.

Complementary & Alternative Medicine

Alternative Medicine Home Page  Developed and maintained by the Falk Library of Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.
CAMBase  Based at the Universität Witten/Herdecke in Witten, Germany, CAMBase is a database of complementary and alternative medicine articles.  While there is overlap with other major biomedical and CAM resources, CAMBase also includes many nonEnglish articles.

Homeopathy Collection  Full text digitized collection of pamphlets going back to the 19th century. From the Taubman Medical Library, University of Michigan.
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine  A center within NIH and the principal government organization involved with CAM research and educational.
The Continuum Center for Health & Healing  A-Z list of health conditions, descriptions with research evidence on alternative and indigenous health practices, and information on education and training. Based at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.
The Rosenthal Center  The Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Center, an independent organization located in Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons dedicated to research and education in complementary medicine.
